Independence day: a big party is organized at the naval
base, open to everyone. All navy ships (3 small boats) are on display,
and lots of weapons such as torpedoes, depth charges, cannon: nice tools.
On stage are dance and concerts with popular Israeli music. Fireworks in
the background from everywhere in the city, and signs with the number 56:
Israel's age.

The crew of one of the missile boats stood on the wobbly
deck in their best uniform, making pancakes of the front ropes. Henk's
was immediately reminded of his days at the Kaag sailing school.

A great evening ended once more in a deception: the kitchen
window is forced once more and the entire house has been searched, probably
by the same burglar coming back to collect new laptops or the battery chargers.
Fortunately, the computers were locked in the safe room. But Henk's credit
cards were stolen, together with 2 decks of cards and an old mobile phone
we borrowed from Dror. Up till then, Dror did not think much of the burglary,
but when he heard about the cell phone he exploded: BASTARDS!!!!
|
We called the police, but all available officers were doing
security work at the parties in town. The next evening, after reporting
to the police and lots of phone calls, finally a detective showed up.

With powder, brushes and a true-to-life magnifying glass,
Sherlock searches for fingerprints. Unfortunately, there were none left
on the window.

Despite the troubles we make our very first
BBQ, or Mangal as it is called here. Never done it before, but old pyro-pirate
Henk gets a nice fire going in our 10 dollar barbecue, and we have a marvelous
meal with marinated turkey, a whole Dennis-fish and all sorts of queer
looking kebab sausages, together with home-made whisky- and garlic sauce.
Our neighbor Roded, painting his children's playground, comes to check
if we have done a good job, but remains highly diplomatic.....
