Pussycat Amitsa is still going strong. For more funny pictures,

The first T-shirt from our own crop is in the making: two butts in Anneke's
cotton plant have exploded into fluffy dabs of cotton. Just a little spinning
to do, but we may leave that to the cat ....
|
This is the view on the balcony of our downstairs neighbors. Every balcony
has a big hole through which you can look down upon the next balcony. This
view is not really a treasure, and Amitsa could easily fall down when hunting
pigeons. A similar hole exists to our upstairs neighbors, and that doesn't
make us any happier, since the people there used to beat their table cloth
in it, with the crumbs falling on our place, and flick burning cigarette butts
down. Now that the apartment is empty, pigeons have taken over, and we have
to check every piece of food for additional jam..... Time for a little DIY...
|
Henk fabricates a big wooden board with hefty beams underneath,
and this we drop like a big lid over the hole. Right, that one is closed.
The construction is strong enough to stand on, and this allows us to make
a net across the entire balcony, to make it cat-proof. The net is attached
to 'jumbo' bolds, drilled into the concrete. Fortunately, Henk does not suffer
from vertigo, because, although he has a safety line, it is 10 floors down....

Sonja painting the laths for the hole in the ceiling. Yuval has already
assisted in fixing 3 beams. We fight a lost battle with the company that
rented out the big hammer drill: got the drill Wednesday to 2 in the afternoon,
returned it Friday at 9 in the morning: that is 3 days. Huh???, yes
indeed, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Fortunately, this is not just for
tourists, the Israeli's screw each other just as well.
|
The hole in the ceiling is almost closed. Four more planks,
2 layers of paint, and we will be safe from further manna.
|
Ruth is celebrating her birthday, and Yuval has organized a surprise
party. Our mini-van is stuffed full, and with a group of close friends we
build a campfire and barbecue in the desert, just outside Eilat, in Wadi Schlomo.
The place is marked with a circle of 40 candles.
|
When Yuval gets Ruth from her work at 8 in the evening, she does
not expect anything, until he suddenly turns off the road into the desert
and confiscates her specs. When they arrive 5 minutes later, and she get her
specs back, she sees a path of candles in the dark, leading to the camp fire.
How romantic!!!!
|
The wood from the fire is used to heat the barbecue, and everyone has
brought meat, snacks and wine. We enjoy the food till late in the evening,
in the light of the fire and the almost full moon. .
|
Talking in the dark, under an acacia tree, enjoying large chunks of watermelon.
Ahh, this is the life..
When Yuval shines his torch light around, we see the light reflecting in
the eyes of desert foxes. They wait until we leave, for eating any leftovers.
|
The same week, we have another barbecue, this time on the beach. Just like
last year, it is organized by Elah especially for the Dutchies in Eilat.
|
Anneke, who has helped organize the Elah meetings for many years,
receives a good-bye present, since she will remigrate to Holland soon, with
husband, son and daughter.
