Our Belgian friends Sam and Nicole have to visit Tel-Aviv for a day, it is Hanukkah, schools are out, and we take their kids
for a picnic in the desert. Joshua climbs every hill and mountain we encounter, closely followed by Henk.
What goes up, must come down, in a hurry....
First, we go to see the Amram Pillars, because the kids have not yet been there.
Luckily Joshua is wearing his Spiderman T-shirt, making him cling firmly to the rocks.
Valerie clings a bit less, for a slight vertigo makes the climb rather more difficult...
....but she too reaches the top and gets in between the pillars.
Good precaution to wear old clothes, because the chalk rocks are very powdery and dusty.
We drive some more through the desert, along the rock formation called "submarine" near Be'er Ora, and make
the picnic in a small valley surrounded by colorful mountains.
Pita, hummus, boiled eggs, and naturally for this time of year: Zufkaniot. Hmmmmm....
Sonja teaches a first lesson of belly dance to Valerie. The boys are kindly requested to take a hike,
while the girls have fun at the rhythm of the tarbuka from an old, battery powered, CD player.
Valerie thoroughly enjoys this! Henk and Joshua climb a couple more mountains and can only watch the show from a distance.
We did it: hyper active Joshua falls asleep in the jeep on the way back home. A successful day indeed!
