Let's start with some "couleur locale": dawn at 6:30 ....
.... and sunset at 17:30. Wow, what a colors.
Sonja bought some "quickly ready" barbecue briquettes.
And indeed, in just 2 minutes the entire BBQ was on fire, and the building
as well.. .. (well almost)
The huge flag on the other side of the gulf: 80 meters long, 40
meters wide, 120 meters high. Compare it with the vessels in front:
you could almost wrap these ships in the flag. Take away?
Son and her friend Anat visit the zoo at kibbutz Eilot, to
cuddle with the rabbits.
The children are having a ball, but the rabbits and guinea-pigs
do not fully agree. "Ready for take off......Heeeeellp!"
Hot donkeys.....
and camels, well off course, this is the Negev desert. The monkeys
and the bear have not been put on photo: they looked all too miserable.
The painter is coming to repair the leakage damage. The big pieces of
furniture have been evacuated to the balcony, and all the other stuff to
the guest room.
Our painter did not understand Sonja's choice of color, and especially
not the fact that it took her just 2 seconds to decide. But he became
more and more enthusiastic. Some walls are still white, but others now have
a soft yellow tone.
And this is the result: all furniture back in place, clouds of dust
have dissolved, and the look of room has improved considerably.
Even the dining room has a completely different look.
Jip and Janneke postcards.
The utility room that suffered the most damage, but is looking perfect
now!! Thank you painter, whose name should not be mentioned (for fiscal reasons
of course).
Lucky shot: while strolling one evening, Henk saw some fluttering and
took a picture without even pointing. This little animal looks suspiciously
like a humming bird, but is a moth: a hummingbird hawk moth.
And then this fellow came along, 3 to 4 inches long, and together with
a couple of million sisters and brothers.
Saturday afternoon, locusts everywhere, we walked a few steps into the
mountains behind the building, and got surrounded by thousands of them. They
were quite shy and we could not get close-up, but since they are clumsy flyers,
Sonja got a few against her arm, and Ruth caught one in her hair.
One mile down the road, near the supermarket, there were lots more: dense
clouds of locusts.
Two pictures from the newspaper, taken somewhere in Eilat.
A visit to the Bird watching center north of Eilat. It is not very warm
today, but the colors and shades of the mountains are stunning.
