Let us show you there can even be rain in Eilat: this thunderstorm
passed by over Aqaba. A little further up north the road was flooded, cars
and busses got stuck, and 2 people were missing.
|
It took three days to clear and repair the road to the north, and
repairs amounted to 3 million euros. Here the rain hits the city, and it
will have been quite wet in Aqaba, for even the huge flag was taken down
afterwards, probably for dry-cleaning and ironing..
|
No, not by Sonja. She is ironing as well, with a view, but not Hashemitic
flags of 80 meters long (!).
|
Our friend Raymond, the owner of the snack bar at Coral Beach. He
creates delicious pita-tuna's, chips with ketchup, and jokes by the dozens.
|
How boring, every week the same thing, I wonder when we will
get enough of this. Just keep on keeping on for a while......
|
Every Sunday to the beach, with fins and snorkels, to
watch the fish and coral and splash around a bit
|
Sunset at Coral Beach. We walked one of the piers to get a nice view
of the beach and the mountains. This pier we also use for swimming, as they
will bring you beyond the coral threshold and beyond the lines, thus
protecting the coral. Not that this will impress the Israeli, who don't care
much about any regulation whatsoever.
|
Yet another view at the beach, with Raymond's bar in the middle,
and our chairs to the right.
|
Mother Mary's rays, as Britta our hot air balloon pilot called these.
|
Just a few more pictures from fish that swims around the piers at coral
beach. This is a Cornet fish which we call "flute", about half a meter long.
This one is closely related to the sea horse.
|
Clown sand wrasse, with a bulk head, black colored with green stripes.
This is a male, and we just happened to see a female while snorkeling. It
required the help of the book of fish, because the female looks totally
different. It is much smaller, and the tail part has a different pattern
than the head, just as if two different species have been glued together.
|
A "Red Sea Surgeon fish", probably called so because you may need
a surgeon after having a close encounter with its poisonous tale. This one
we see almost every week near the stairs of the pier.
Sonja's favorite: the lion fish. During a night dive, Sonja was attacked
by one of these buggers, and she got one of the spines in her finger.
She ended up in the Eilati hospital, had tremendous pain, a
terribly swollen hand, and it took months to heal. Fish in the Red
Sea do know how to cope.....
